Officers 2014-2015

Courtney Ellenson-President

Hi everyone! My name is Courtney Ellenson and I am the current AEMB president. What most excites me as a biomedical engineer are the opportunities to help make a truly positive difference in one of the most important aspects of peoples’ lives, health. As a result, I am most passionate about the area of diagnostics in low resource settings and global health. I also am very interested in the business side of engineering and the process of how we can take the amazing devices developed in research labs and make them into actual products used around the globe.

In addition to biomedical engineering, my other greatest passion is the French language and culture. I was fortunate enough to study abroad during my sophomore year in Grenoble, France where I was able to combine not only my interests in all things French but also those of skiing (in the Alps!!) and traveling (all across the Europe!!). I want to travel as much of this world as I can and learn as much as I can in the process. If you see my running around Cummington Mall, feel free to stop me and say hi, I am always happy to chat!blog photo

Shreya Deshmukh-Vice President

I’m passionate about working to improve health, with a focus on making an impact in global health. I find biomedical engineering very interesting because it allows me to creatively bring together various disciplines to develop an innovative solution to real and significant problems. I also thrive on teamwork and getting to know different kinds of people. These interests have carried into my research projects and internships, as well as the student groups I’m involved in. I enjoy creativity in other forms too -writing, piano, inventing recipes (I have a food blog!), etc. I also absolutely love judo!
My family has moved a lot, so my clearest definition of home is somewhere between India and Tokyo -but I love travelling and I am excited to explore different cultures as I chase my dreams around the globe. One of my lifelong goals is to understand and encourage global connections between diverse individuals, because I envision that leading to a kinder, stronger, and more colourful world.

Shoot me a message, I would love to talk to you!

Keith George-Treasurer

Hey how’s it going? My name is Keith George and I am the treasurer for AEMB. I’m originally from Dallas, Texas (Go Mavs!). I do some lab work related to biomaterials and nanotechnology. When I’m not working, I like to play basketball or FIFA 14 with my roommates, or just sit back and listen to nice music. A good day is a day when I can get coconut froyo from Pinkberry.

Nelson Boland-Secretary

Hey everyone! My name is Nelson Boland and I am the secretary of AEMB. I’m a pre-med BME with a passion for both engineering and medicine. I currently work in two labs at BU, one focused on tissue engineering and the other on microfluidics and diagnostics. After graduation, I hope to pursue my MD and one day become a physician, a career path which I believe will be extremely rewarding.

I am also a massive sports fan! I follow football (Falcons), soccer (Chelsea), the NBA (Hawks), and pretty much everything else. Because of this, I am also the commissioner of several fantasy sports leagues. I’ll always make time if someone wants to talk sports. My other hobbies include playing piano, skiing, and traveling. If I can travel the world by skis whilst playing music for the locals, I’d be a happy camper! Cheers!
