Ride

Fall

Starting on the first weekend after school starts, we hold weekly team rides. Sign up (contact an officer) for our email list and to join our slack channel to receive all of the details for every ride, or be able to send out an email for riders to join a ride YOU are having. On weekdays, we have spin classes in the FitRec spin room, so don’t miss those either!

Early in the fall (before it gets too cold), we have a weekend training camp in the White Mountains in NH. Expect 100 miles and more, and a climb up the Kanc!

We also volunteer at the Hub On Wheels (Sunday Sept. 16, 2018) at multiple points along the route–come out and celebrate cycling in Boston!

Many of our riders also compete in cyclocross and mountain divisions of the ECCC as well.

Spring

During the Spring Semester, we have our Road Season beginning in March! This means the team is away most every weekend from March until late April. Although group rides will not be guaranteed, club officers or members who choose not to travel to certain races usually hold Saturday/Sunday rides for training! Again, keep an eye out on our slack channel for these ride details!

Spin Schedule:

Spin is on most Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 7 – 9 PM in the spin room @ FitRec.

Routes

Here’s some of the common routes that we ride. They’re just suggestions–we’ll often deviate from them on group rides, since there are a lot of wonderful roads in the Greater Boston Area that are not completely covered with potholes (as one might assume). We’re constantly adding routes onto this list, so check back often for new suggestions!

Route Descriptions:

  • Dover Cafe: The bread and butter of Boston area cyclists, its a 30+ mile ride out and back to the Dover Cafe. The roads out there are much better than the ones in Boston (aka not that many potholes and not as many agitated drivers looking to redirect their anger at their boss). Its also a great area to explore–the route above includes some of our favorite roads to ride.
  • Blue Hills: Another Boston cycling classic, the Blue Hills climb is a 4-7 minute effort that can be repeated (oh gosh) as many times as you wish. It just takes a bit long to get there, so if something shorter is what you desire, look no further than Summit Ave. Another option is just turning off at the Arboretum. Bikes are allowed inside, and there’s a nice little vantage point called Peter’s Hill in the south side of the park from which you can see Boston. You can also do slight incline repeats on Bussey Hill Road, which is in the northern area of the park.
  • Golf Course LoopThis route near the BU campus takes us around The Country Club in Brookline. Look it up–it’s the O.G. stuff. Getting there and back is fairly easy, and the loop itself is around 4 miles long with a little elevation change–lap it to your heart’s content.
  • ConcordJust one of the many ways one would get to Concord and back. This particular route takes us down through Needham, up through Weston, to Concord. Roads are relatively calm once you get past I-95 around Needham. The return route takes us up through Bedford via a dirt access road (nothing that a road bike can’t handle, but look for some of the party lines), and the Minuteman Bike Path. Things get busier past Mass Ave, but there’s a bike lane, use it to your advantage, and soon, you’ll be back on campus.
