Team

We welcome any and all Boston University students, no matter your age. As long as you have a bike, helmet, and a willingness to learn, you can join us! Visit us at spin nights or on our weekend group rides. And in the spring, come race with us! In the meanwhile, learn a little bit about our team:

Coach:

Ian Marling: Rumor has it he’s a BC grad, but we don’t really mind. Ian has been our coach for the past four seasons, and he’s taken all of our riders to the next level. By completing his training plan to the T, our riders have leveled up from D’s to A’s racers in as little as two seasons. He can often be spotted either at Haute Coffee in Concord (one of our favorite cafés too), or running laps around the Bedford High School track.

Officers:

Sarah Gibertoni

Daniel Pichkar: Hails from Cleveland, Ohio (go Cavs!). Daniel started cycling in the lockdowns of 2020, and it quickly evolved into a passion (who among us, right?). Besides riding, he can be found hanging out with friends or exploring Boston, as well as nurturing a healthy curiosity for gravel riding. Feel free to reach out to him if you ever need someone to ride with!

VP, 2022; Treasurer, 2021-2022

Billy Zhai

goof

David Tran: Another MA local, this time from a little further south in Milton. A mountain biker turned roadie, David has been road biking since the end of 2020, with interests spanning all of training, bike maintenance, racing, new parts, and just chill rides. When not exploring all these avenues, he likes to watch F1 and football.

Secretary, 2021-2023

Sam Duan

Daniel Skahill

Recent Alumni:

Lucía Vilallonga: A Boston native, Lucía joined the team in 2018 and has stuck around through undergrad and now grad school. You may find her leading a group ride, doing math, or noodling along in a park. Lucía made her collegiate racing debut in spring 2022 and hopes to return for at least two more seasons! Unfinished business in the C races will keep her around for a while.

President, 2021-2022; Treasurer, 2019-2021

tony

Anthony DePinto, MPH: aka “Tough Tony” 😉Former president during his undergrad years, Anthony has been racing ECCC for 4 years and plans on continuing his education into grad school so he can race forever. He also makes the best pasta on race weekends, making sure we don’t bonk halfway through the TTT.

President, 2017-2018

Sara Lim, MD: She’s smart, she’s consistently fast, and she’s got nice kit! Our resident medical student probably puts in as many hours on the bike as she spends going through her Anki cards, and is a great person to bounce your “does taking vitamin C increase my FTP by 50 watts” questions off of. She won the Women’s D omnium in 2019–a large milestone for a first-time racer!

Wesley Low

Wesley Low, DPT: Also known as”Wesley ‘Slim Thicc’ Low”. He’s ridden across the country for cancer research.  He was born and raised in California, where its always 70 degrees out. We don’t know why he’s come out to Boston, but we do appreciate his amazing quads and calves. mmmmmmm

Treasurer, 2018-2019

David Sutherland, PhD: Former track and field athlete (and triathlete), and now our resident “crit boi”, is David. He’s a PhD student in mechanical engineering, so he’s most likely working on projects that we would never understand. Whenever he’s not in the lab, he can be seen smashing KOM’s around Mystic Lakes.

editor’s note, 2020: he’s now “Doctor Sutherland”!

Allen Zhu

Allen Zhu, DPT: You’ll know when he’s on the road by his rage-inducing bottom bracket creak that doesn’t seem to bother him He studies physical therapy, so ask him if there’s any pain or discomfort when you’re riding your bike because you’re neglecting your stretching routine.

Social Chair, 2018-2019

Arun Kabir: He races cyclocross and road. Spends most of his time tinkering with his bike setup. Hailing from Cambridge, MA, he discovered his love for cyclocross in upstate NY, and has never looked back. He studies math and philosophy, and isn’t really sure when he’s going to graduate.

Vice President, Dirt Captain 2018-2020

Yumeto Shigihara: He started off mountain biking racing enduro in CA and then discovered an affinity for spandex and suffering. Now he rides the roads exclusively, but still swears by disc brakes (that squeal). His spirit animal is Larry Enticer.

President, Road Captain, 2018-2020

Isabella Turcinovic: Spearheading our women’s team this year is Isabella. She will never forget to tell you that she’s from Austin, TX and the greenbelt there is better than the Emerald Necklace. We understand that she misses home a lot, but we do appreciate having her here!

President, 2020-2021, Secretary (Sports Information Director), 2019-2020

jackJack Eisele: Another California transplant from the Bay Area (we have three now, no LA people so far), this ex-varsity rower puts everyone’s power numbers to shame (did anyone say 400w for 20 mins?). Watch out, ECCC, ’cause Jack will ride you off his wheel!

Road Captain, 2020-2021
