Access Control update on Tuesday, 4/12/2010

The Access Control Lists (ACL) plugin will be updated tomorrow morning before business hours.  This is a relatively small update that includes some interface improvements.  Here is what you may notice changing:

  • When you’re editing a page, or creating a new page, usage tips will only appear when the “Restrict access to this group” box is checked.
  • You will now be able to add anonymous web accounts to your list of users, however you will asked to confirm this action before it is added to the list.
  • Groups containing class IDs will now properly display all of their class IDs when editing the group.
  • If you have more than ten users in your user list, it will now be paginated.  Users are added and removed just as they were before, however large user lists are now conveniently broken down across pages.  You may use the search field below the user list to find the page containing a specific username.

Blogs – Work In Progress

Now that we have completed the installation of the latest release of WordPress, version 2.7.1, we have begun the following improvements and additions to the service:

  1. Ensuring that a disclaimer is automatically added to all student and student organization blogs.  This is required by the General Counsel’s office and is a prerequisite for officially announcing the service.
  2. Updating the themes available to publishers.
  3. Adding functionality that we’ve built and launched for WordPress websites on www.bu.edu and www.bumc.bu.edu.

We will send announcements as we complete this work.
