<p>A couple quick announcements:</p>
<p>1. BSA will hold it&#8217;s first Happy Hour on Friday, March 1.  The plan is for Happy Hour (tentatively at Sunset Grill &amp; Tap in Allston) to start at 5 pm and Ice skating at Agganis Arena at 8 pm.  A different location may be chosen and we will communicate that via e-mail.</p>
<p>2. The first LaTeX seminar will take place on Friday, March 8th  from 10:00 am &#8211; 12:00 pm at Crosstown, room TBD.  This seminar, which will be taught by Jacqui Milton &amp; Paula Griffin, is the first of a two-part series and will cover basics &amp; the thesis template.  Students are encouraged to bring their laptops and follow along with the material and examples.  Lunch will be provided by the BSA.  Instructions on how to download and install LaTeX will be provided a week before the first seminar and you MUST get LaTeX on your laptops before the seminar.</p>
<p>Also, a quick note&#8230; the BSA e-mail is not checked on a regular basis.  Should you have any questions for the BSA, please e-mail the officers directly.</p>

<p>This greeting &amp; post is a little delayed (okay, VERY delayed!) but welcome to 2013!  We hope that your Spring 2013 semester is off to a good start.</p>
<p>A few updates:</p>
<p>&#8220;We&#8221; is now a collaboration of FOUR officers!  We welcome Liz Kane &amp; Meredith Stevenson to the Secretary &amp; Treasurer positions of the BSA.  Please see the &#8220;Officers&#8221; section for their respective bios and contact information. </p>
<p>The first BSA meeting of 2013 will take place on Thursday, February 14th at 1:00 pm in the Biostatistics Student Room.  Topics to be discussed will be upcoming LaTeX seminars, a future presentation on the dos-and-don&#8217;ts of presenting statistical data, and future BSA events.  Please join us to provide your feedback!  Can you really think of a better way to spend your Valentine&#8217;s Day??</p>

<p>This is just to let you know that the meeting minutes from the 11/8/2012 meeting have been posted on the BSA blog.  </p>
<p>A couple quick announcements:</p>
<p>Voting for the open positions took place during the meeting and we have two new officers!  We&#8217;d like to welcome Elizabeth Kane and Meredith Stevenson as the new Secretary &amp; Treasurer. <p>We&#8217;ve got some updates for you so PLEASE mark your calendars!</p>
<p>REGISTRATION LUNCH &#8212; WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 7 &#8212; 12:00 pm-1:30 pm &#8212; CT332<br />
We will be hosting our annual Registration lunch.  Please come with your questions (and comments) about recommended courses, qualifiers, schedules, etc.  and we will try to help you make some decisions for upcoming semesters.  Lunch will be provided by the BSA (free food!!!).</p>
<p>NOVEMBER BSA MEETING &#8212; THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 8 &#8212; 1:15 pm &#8212; CT345 (Biostatistics Student Room)<br />
Some topics to be covered: New officer positions, upcoming events for the Spring semester, community service, ice skating, and t-shirts!</p>

<p>IF you have answers YES to any of these questions &#8211; join us on Wednesdays from noon-1pm in CT 302 for a group lunch!  Bring your lunch, chat, complain, laugh, cry, (jk there&#8217;s no crying allowed)&#8230;or just hang out!</p>
<p>We&#8217;ll be meeting starting November 2nd and will continue through on the end of the semester!</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>1) <strong>BSA Monthly Meeting</strong> will be <span style="text-decoration: underline">Thursday from October 13th 1-2pm in CT 302</span>.  Bring you lunch and we can chat about lots of upcoming events.  We have to select a Biostats student for the member spot light for November/December, as well as elect a Treasurer for the club.  If you are unable to attend but have an interest in nominating yourself or someone else &#8211; please reply to this email so we can count you in!</p>
<p>2) Our <strong>Second Journal Club meeting</strong> will be on <span style="text-decoration: underline">Wed. Oct 19th from 1-2pm in CT332</span>.  The article has been chosen and is located under the Journal Club link on this page.  Ever wonder what simulation studies are?  How to conduct them?  How many simulations you need to run?  How to summarize your results?   We hope to discuss this and more!</p>
<p>3) <strong>Biostats Fall Party</strong> &#8211; at BU Fit Rec, <span style="text-decoration: underline">Sunday October 23rd </span>- this is def. a must attend!  Not only can you climb the rock wall (or race your fellow classmates up the wall [<span style="color: #cc0000">Sean Lacey</span> you are going down this year!]), play volley ball/soccer, and socialize with your classmates/professors and the families &#8211; but also eat some amazing food!  I&#8217;m crossing MY fingers for mac and cheese and red velvet <img style="margin-top: 0px;margin-right: 0.2ex;margin-bottom: 0px;margin-left: 0.2ex;vertical-align: middle" src="https://mail.google.com/mail/e/962" alt="" /> cupcakes &#8211; just sayin&#8217;&#8230;.</p>
<p>4) <strong>Halloween Party</strong> &#8211; We haven&#8217;t worked out all the details on this one yet &#8211; but we&#8217;re thinking it&#8217;ll be on October 28th &#8211; you&#8217;ll basically have to dress up in your favorite costume and get some yummy desserts.</p>
<p>5) <strong>How to Get Published Seminar</strong>.  - This will be on Nov 3rd at 2pm &#8211; (I know it&#8217;s not October &#8211; but we had originally planned for it to be this month).  We are still finalizing the panelists who will be in attendance - but keep your eyes/ears open for more details in the next week or so.  We know some of you have class until 2 pm &#8211; so please feel free to come by a little late.  We&#8217;re currently working out how to record the session &#8211; so if you can&#8217;t make it you can listen in later on.</p>
