About

The Boston University Developmental Disability (BUDD) Awareness Group promotes education about developmental disabilities for medical students. The group aims to improve student understanding of what it means to have a developmental disability and the spectrum of associated long-term implications, as well as to provide awareness about the daily life of individuals with developmental disabilities.

The BUDD Awareness Group offers educational talks and one-time volunteer opportunities to work with individuals with developmental disabilities. By providing education and service learning opportunities, the group hopes to prepare future physicians to provide compassionate care for individuals with developmental disabilities across all medical specialties and informed guidance for parents seeking counsel during diagnosis and development.

Additionally, the group offers a service learning elective which matches students with individuals with Down syndrome, allowing them to establish a long-term bond and encouraging the students to learn from these individuals and their families.
