Leadership: Former President, Treasurer, and Men’s Foil Captain

I started fencing my freshman year of high school – after watching so many sword fighting movies in my lifetime, I had to give it a shot. In my BU fencing career, the Nationals 2013 experience was easily my most rewarding experience. Everything from the months of planning to our success at the tournament make that season the best during my time with the BUFC.

I have been fencing for about eight years. In my BU fencing career, I’m most proud of my 4th place finish at Club Nationals in 2011, the successes of the team, my squad, and all of the traditions we started together. I never intended on continuing my fencing career into college.  Some of the younger fencers may not even know what this is, but it was Splash which drove me towards the fencing team, and one Rachel Bisaro, who plucked me from a crowd of freshmen. I mean plucked in the most literal sense possible, as she literally hoisted me from my feet upon hearing that I fenced sabre, and dropped me on the sign-up table. My entire collegiate experience revolved around the fencing team, we are a family, plain and simple, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I started fencing in the summer of 2007. One of my favorite fencing memories was when my fencing club at home hosted a “beginner’s tournament” for people in the area with <1 year of fencing experience. I had been fencing for almost a year, it was really cool to see how far I’d come in only a year. In my BU fencing career, I’m most proud of winning a bout at nationals junior year against a girl who beat me 15-1 in my first DE at my first Big One.
