When did you start fencing? I have been fencing for eight years.
Why did you start fencing? My mom showed me a flyer for a fencing academy when I was in my first year of high school and it looked cool. I stuck with it, but I did not fall in love with the sport until I saw my coach’s three leading students do footwork. I wanted to glide across the floor like they did.
What is one of your favorite fencing memories? I have many great memories, however, nothing compares to the blade work training I did with a fellow fencing student who eventually became my rival and one of my best friends.
What are you most proud of in your fencing career? I have had two great achievements in my fencing career: placing first coming out of the pool rounds in Division 3 at summer nationals in 2010, and achieving my A rank in 2011 by placing 5th in a large tournament.
Off the fencing strip: I have many interests and throughout college I have learned a number of skills such as Kung Fu and Salsa dancing. Fencing, however, will always be my most valued activity. I cannot see myself living without fencing.
