When did you start fencing? 10 years ago

Why did you start fencing? I grew up a bit of a tomboy since all of my neighbors were boys. We had a lot of sword fights and movies like Peter Pan quickly became my favorites. One night at a neighbor’s party, a random attendee strode up to me and told me that I “looked like a fencer.” It seemed like a huge compliment to me, so I signed up for summer classes, got hooked, and the rest is history.

What is one of your favorite fencing memories? The moment when I realized that fencing, despite generally being a mostly individual sport, is really all about your team and community. At my very first tournament ever, all of my club mates came to cheer me on, despite the fact that we had only known each other for a couple of months. Since then, my teammates have become my best friends, coaches, mentors, and inspiration.

What are you most proud of in your fencing career?

Bronze Medal at The Big One 2012
Bronze Medal at Club Nationals 2012
Bronze Medal at The Big One 2011
Gold Medal 2011 NEIFC
Championships Gold Medal WS Junior Team 2010
San Jose NAC 12th Junior WS 2009
Summer Nationals (Dallas) Gold Medalist Div II WS, 2008
Rosemont NAC Top 8 Cadet WS 2008 Summer Nationals (San Jose)

Off the fencing strip: I studied abroad in Madrid last year, and I love dinosaurs!
