When did you start fencing? Freshman year of college!

Why did you start fencing? One of my friends used to fence in high school, and she convinced me and a few other friends to come with her to the first BUFC practice of our freshman year. I loved it, so I stayed, but funnily enough the friend who used to fence in high school left the club after only a few practices.

What is one of your favorite fencing memories? At the 2012 USACFC Nationals, we (the men’s sabre squad) thought we were done fencing for the day after losing in DE’s to one of the other schools. So we went back to where we’d kept all of our stuff, got out of our gear, and started to relax. Suddenly, we heard “final call for BU Men’s Sabre.” So we jumped up, grabbed all our gear, and ran to the strip. After that, we didn’t lose a single bout.

What are you most proud of in your fencing career? I once came back from 5-13 down to win one of my bouts 15-14. I think that may have been the only time I’ve shouted on the strip.

Off the fencing strip: I have lived in about seventeen houses across two continents since I was born. When I came to BU, I wanted to be a war photographer, and if you ask my friends they’d tell you I changed my major around twenty times since (though it’s more like five). I’ve been rock climbing since I was five. Things on my to-do list include going to space, climbing Everest, writing a novel, and meeting a cheetah.
