Media credibility dropping

The latest Pew Research Center survey of Americans’ attitudes about media now show nearly two-thirds believe that news stories often are inaccurate – a big shift since 1985 when only 34 percent felt that way.  Pulitzer-winning College of Communication Dean Tom Fiedler thinks legitimate media are getting a bum rap.

“Much of the negativity toward the news media about its alleged lack of trustworthiness derives, I believe, from the lack of credibility by those who masquerade as journalists but are merely entertainers and commentators.”
