Palm shopping itself

Palm PrePDA pioneer Palm, creator of the Pre smartphone, reportedly is shopping itself and has hired Goldman Sachs to help find a buyer.  School of Management Professor N. Venkat Venkatraman, head of the Information Systems Department, says a sale was inevitable as Palm has not been able to gain much traction with it’s Pre beyond a small group of core followers.

“It may well be that Palm does not get a premium and that an acquisition may be attractive for the talent but not for hardware or software.”

i think they should lower the price for the palm to attract more customers, and maybe add more features

David Forer posted on April 17, 2010 at 11:42 am

Really? They chose Goldman Sachs to do this? I would think that they would want to steer away from them right now. The Palm already has enough bad press don’t need anymore. As for talent, it may be a worthwhile buy.

I think the nexus one and other developments will think out this smartphone market pretty quickly.

There is so much competition in this area i can see where a merger would benefit the company

I’d actually love to get the iPad! Although it’s bigger than a palm.

Great buy by HP. They had a big need for a mobile OS

I havent heard of Palm in years, i think there are more attractive devices right now, or at least they are more popular. I think they should advertise more and be more price friendly. for sure is a great device with some limits but does its purpose right.

revitol scar cream posted on February 4, 2011 at 7:27 pm

Its a small device, about the size of a pack of cards, and with an upgraded memory card it can easily hold 50 or 75 books in addition to all the other stuff – wouldn’t go anywhere without it…..

Mr.Venkatraman is true to his words. There had been no considerable sales of the Palms and there was no idea that they would at least be noticed.

Your blog seems to contain a handful of information. The outlook is bit fancy but I liked it. I came across a lot of new ideas about the topic. But it would look great if you had broken it into more distinctive sections. Keep it up.

Palm is now just a history…as it was easily clobbered by the popularity of iPhone and even with new market entrants…

hotel ile maurice posted on May 3, 2011 at 3:13 am

Lowering the price won’t change anything. Android’s already eating the market.

An interesting dialogue is price comment. I believe that it is best to write extra on this subject, it may not be a taboo topic but usually persons are not enough to talk on such topics. To the next. Cheers

I have not heard if PDA Palm has been sold yet. However you can still buy quite a few PDA palm models like the Palm Tungsten E2 Handheld and PalmOne PalmPilot.

I was looking at reviews and found it interesting they go all the way back to 1998.

I had a Palm Tungsten many years ago. The smartphone (any) LOL does put the Palm at a disadvantage

Honestly, with current range of smart phones, such as iPhone, HTC, Android, Blackberry and what not, I don’t really see the point of owning any palm device. I mean, yeah, there are some Palm only software, but in general, who would need them ;)

Best Netbook posted on May 26, 2011 at 8:07 am

There are too many competitors out there now for Palm to compete, they will never get the upper hand over the like of Apple, blackberry and even many other smartphones.
