Coach Chambers heading to Penn State

BU Today reported that Men’s basketball coach Pat Chambers is leaving the University and has accepted the position of head coach at Penn State. Coach Chambers is credited with taking the Terriers to the NCAA tournament this year and having a 42-28 record during his tenure. Chambers came to BU from Villanova, where he was assistant coach, in 2009. NittanyWhiteOut reflected on Chambers’ career at BU via an interview with the Daily Free Press‘ new sports editor, and sports blogger, Craig Meyer: “He constantly harped on the importance of the team and coaching staff being like a family, and thinking of it that way, Chambers was much like the father — he kept order and was hard on his players when needed, but he did it for all the right reasons, namely that he cared so much for his guys.”

Synchronized Swimming, the ultimate team sport

The decade old Synchronized Swimming Team here at BU practices six hours in the FitRec Pool and three hours on dry land per week and yet competes against Division I Varsity Level Programs from schools around the country.

You can see team members in action at their end-of-season show on Tuesday, April 5, at 8:30 p.m. at the FitRec Center competition pool for free.

Men’s basketball enters NCAA tourney tomorrow night

Second-year Men’s Basketball Head Coach Patrick Chambers, just the second coach in the BU record book to earn at least 21 wins in back-to-back seasons, and the Terriers are making the program’s 7th trip to the NCAA tournament tomorrow night against 1st seeded Kansas. Tip-off will be at 6:50 PM and the game will be played in Tulsa, Oklahoma as part of the tournament’s second round. Watch parties are taking place around the country, including on campus at T’s Pub. BU had its most success in the tournament in 1959, advancing to the Elite Eight. BU Athletics spent the day with Coach Chambers earlier this year and filmed a “Game Day in the Life”:

Youth Sport Coach Development Roundtable

Today from 9am- 12pm SED’s The Institute for Athletic Coach Education (IACE) is hosting a Youth Sport Coach Development Round table Discussion to discuss the challenges that exist in developing high quality coaches. Top researchers, youth development experts, and coach trainers will lead discussions and help participants think through possible solutions, and will create a set of preliminary strategies for advancing coach development efforts in this country.

Men’s basketball takes center stage at Madison Square Garden

On what many fans call the biggest stage in college sports, the Boston University men’s basketball team will square off against the Albany Great Danes tonight at Madison Square Garden. With tip-off set for 9:30 p.m, the Terriers (12-13, 7-4 AE) will be competing in the first-ever America East match-up at MSG.
