BU’s Alumni Association is kicking off its brand new learning program BU Alumni College this summer. Alumni College is a stand-alone program designed to empower alumni through immersive educational experiences.

The inaugural Alumni College is called Sustainability in the City, which involves learning experiences where expert faculty from the College of Arts & Sciences will address critical and practical sustainability questions by way of lectures, field trips, lab experiences and classroom discussions.  Other events include a trip to the New England Aquarium and a Sunset Harbor Cruise.

Registration for on-campus housing ends TODAY, May 27, and regular registration ends June 3.

Kerin spent President’s Day weekend in Northern Ireland and got a chance to view the Peace Walls and political murals in Belfast.  She experienced firsthand the contentious culture of the region when the bouncers at a bar declined to allow their friend from Dublin in because he spoke with a “southern Ireland” accent, was from “The Republic,” was “nationalist” and was, as they said, most likely Catholic.  See for yourself.

The life and work of legendary film director Robert Altman will be celebrated at a symposium tonight at 5:30 PM, marking the publication of a new Altman biography and the 40th anniversary of his seminal film, “M*A*S*H.”  Favorite Altman actors Elliott Gould, Sally Kellerman, and Michael Murphy will be joined in a panel discussion by his widow, Kathryn Altman, Boston Globe film critic Ty Burr, and BU Prof essor Mitchell Zuckoff, author of “Robert Altman: The Oral Biography” (Knopf) followed by a screening of “M*A*S*H.” Open to the public ($10 for adults, $5 for children), the evening is sponsored by the BU College of Communication in concert with the BU Alumni Association’s Winterfest Weekend and co-sponsored by the College of Arts and Sciences Core Humanities.  It is taking place at the Tsai Performance Center (685 Commonwealth Avenue).
