<p><a href="http://www.bu.edu/sed"><img class="size-full wp-image-8441 alignleft" src="http://blogs.bu.edu/bunow/files/2011/03/OK.jpg" alt="OK" width="115" height="172" />SED</a>&#8216;s <a href="http://www.bu.edu/academics/sed/programs/deaf-studies/">Deaf Studies Program</a> is hosting an expected 300 attendees for their Deaf Deaf World (DDW) event tonight from 5-7 in the <a href="http://www.bu.edu/evcon/non-univ/campus-facilities/george-sherman-union/">GSU&#8217;s Metcalf Ballroom</a>.  The event will be is an opportunity for ASL, Deaf Studies and Deaf Education graduate students to step out and begin to experience and appreciate Deaf Culture and learn about the Deaf world.  The DDW experience consists of visiting  booths to engage in a conversation regarding specific Deaf life experience.  The event will include role-playing and is<strong> free and open to the public.</strong></p>

<p style="text-align: center">The <a href="http://www.bu.edu/sed">School of Education</a> (SED) will host their annual <a href="http://www.bu.edu/phpbin/calendar/event.php?id=106656&amp;cid=17&amp;oid=0">Junior Pinning</a> ceremony tonight at 7:30 PM in <a href="http://www.bu.edu/management">SMG</a> 105.  SED established the event to honor students as they enter the  final professional coursework of their academic programs and to provide  an opportunity for those students to celebrate their commitment to the  education profession. During this ceremony, the junior class will affirm  their dedication to the profession by reciting the <a href="http://www.bu.edu/sed/academics/undergraduate/">Boston University Educators’ Affirmation</a> and hear an address from guest speaker <a href="www.gregforbessiegman.com">Greg Forbes Siegman</a>.  Families of our juniors , faculty, staff and alumni are invited to attend the dinner and ceremony.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The final installment of <em><a href="http://www.bu.edu/today" target="_blank">BU Today&#8217;s</a></em> &#8220;<a href="http://www.bu.edu/today/node/12204" target="_blank">Reaching Out</a>&#8221; series focuses on the <a href="http://www.bu.edu/sed" target="_blank">School of Education&#8217;s</a> (SED) <a style="font-size: 15px;color: #488db2;text-decoration: none;border-bottom-width: 1px;border-bottom-style: solid;border-bottom-color: #d1d3d5;padding: 0px;margin: 0px" href="http://www.bu.edu/sed/community-outreach/programs/intergenerational-literacy/" target="_blank">Intergenerational Literacy Program</a>, an component of the long-stading collaboration between the Chelsea Public Schools and BU.</p>
<p>The program, which supports both children and their parents, is designed to teach English and equip families with the skills and information needed to adapt to everyday life in the United States.  It serves anywhere from 75 to 90 families at a time, and over the course of approximately 20 years has helped more than 2,400 families.  In addition to English, the program teaches things like understanding job applications, newspaper articles, citizenship materials, and financial forms. Classroom discussions also cover fire safety, crime prevention, lead paint, and even trash day.</p>
