Kerin spent President’s Day weekend in Northern Ireland and got a chance to view the Peace Walls and political murals in Belfast.  She experienced firsthand the contentious culture of the region when the bouncers at a bar declined to allow their friend from Dublin in because he spoke with a “southern Ireland” accent, was from “The Republic,” was “nationalist” and was, as they said, most likely Catholic.  See for yourself.

Riley is chronicling her experiences, good and bad, on her blog The Life of [Kerin] Riley which hosts messages to family and friends at home, pictures from her travels, musing on life, school and living abroad and reflections on gaeilge culture.  We will be hosting posts from The Life of [Kerin] Riley throughout the semester to showcase what life is like for BU students studying abroad.

The work of Associate Director Dr. Amalia Pérez-Juez at our Menorca Field School in Archaeology & Heritage Management in Spain, and her team of colleagues and students, is currently being exhibited near their former excavation site, Torre d’en Galmès.  Their dig, lasting almost 10 years, resulted in the discovery of rare final traces of the last Muslim-medieval family’s home thought to be left since the Christian conquest in 1287.  Students in the BU Program helped uncover these priceless artifacts while also completing courses in Archaeological Field Methods and Archaeological Heritage Management.
