11/14-11/15 Colgate University Round Robin

HAMILTON, NY – The Boston University Women Squash team had a very successful weekend at Colgate University’s Round Robin where they faced 5 other teams.

Their first match against Hobart and William Smith Colleges, was a rough start to the weekend given that WS is a cup higher than us. Although the team had some very competitive games, overall the team lost 9-0.

However the team was able to turn it around for their second match against the University of Rochester where they won 9-1. With overall successful matches, Alex Smith (16’) had some tougher competition as number 1. BU women played very smart and were able to dominate the games by hitting smooth rails and cross-courts. Freshman Shelby Bannom, won her first collegiate match as number 9, winning 3-2, a very exciting start to her college squash career.

To finish off day one, the team played Smith College, where BU won 9-0. Everyone played very well given that it was our 3rd match of the day hitting strong serve.

To start off day two, BU faced University of Minnesota. Although it was some stiffer competition than Rochester and Smith, BU was the stronger team winning 8-1. Once again, Alex Smith faced some tough competition as #1 and Allysha Wong (’18) had a solid win at #3 although she had a very frustrating opponent.

Colgate proved to be a great match up for our team. Everyone had tough competition. Jasmine Rishi put up a great fight at #5 but was ultimately unable to hold off her opponents incredible drop volleys. After losing the first two games, she was able to make a comeback in the third game by forcing her opponent to dig it out of the back, but was ultimately defeated 11-9 in the fourth game.

Co-captain Lily Wacker (’16) had an incredible match against Colgate’s Courtney McGill as #4. Lily was hitting solid rails and able hold off her opponent in the second game. Tensions were high in the third game with McGill ultimately winning 18-16 in the third game and in the fourth. Allysha Wong showed a strong performance at #3 as well, forcing her opponent to run around the court to hit back her boasts. Yet as the game wore on, the exhaustion from the weekend came through, resulting in Colgate’s victory.

Co-captain Chandler Burke showed a strong performance against Colgate at the #6 position. Her strong cross-courts and backhand drives helped her win a tight three games.

One of BUs new additions to the roster, Shelby Bannon, played the #9 position this weekend and successfully won 3 of her five matches. Congratulations Shelby!

BU had a strong performance this weekend, beating out three teams that are ranked above them in CSA’s F Cup. We’d like to thank Colgate for hosting us this weekend and were looking forward to playing them again!
