On Saturday, November 4 our team traveled to Poughkeepsie, New York to compete in the Hudson Valley Squash Tournament at Vassar College. Upon our arrival, the men competed against Lafayette College and Swarthmore College while the women took on Fordham University and Mount Holyoke College respectively. On Sunday, the men faced opponents from Vassar and Fordham while the women challenged Vassar and BucknellU.

The men had an impressive 9-0 victory against Lafayette, as each member of the team fought relentlessly for every point. Their focus and commitment carried over into their second match against Swarthmore claiming another 9-0 win. The women matched the men in their competitive edge, despite competing without their number one and number two seeds. Although they suffered an 8-1 loss against Fordham and 9-0 loss against Mount Holyoke, the matches served as a worthwhile challenge to the women’s agility, determination, and resilience, especially as each played competed two spots up from her normal ladder position.

The following day, the men suffered a tough 8-1 loss against Fordham during the morning match, but came back to triumph 8-0 over Vassar in the afternoon. The women succumbed to two 9-0 losses against Vassar and Bucknell, but are looking forward to competing against them again later in the season. We are looking forward to traveling to Annapolis, Maryland this weekend to compete in a round robin tournament.

BU Women’s RR 10/28

On Sunday, October 29 the women's team faced off against The University of Rochester and Boston College thus kicking off their fall season. Each member of the team played with a fierce competitiveness and determination, allowing them to win 9-0 overall against The University of Rochester during the morning match.

The afternoon match against BC continued to test the team, but the women refused to falter against their opponents. Team treasurer and number four seed Normandie Essig had an especially inspiring match as she went into a grueling five game rally (11-8, 7-11, 3-11, 11-8, 5-11) with her competitor. While unfortunately the match didn't end in Essig's favor, her perseverance and sportsmanship throughout the entirety of each game is something each of her teammates should aspire to every time they step on court. Overall the women lost against BC, but are hopeful to come back with a vengeance later in the season. The Boston University Squash Team would like to thank everyone who came to the matches to show their support for our players and the Boston University Club Sports program as a whole. We look forward to seeing you again at our upcoming matches!

Swarthmore Round Robin December 5th and 6th

The BU Men’s Squash Team made the long trip to King of Prussia, PA this past weekend to play in a round robin tournament hosted by Swarthmore College. BU started off the weekend on Saturday by playing Fordham University. Emanuel, Paulo, and Allan secured BU wins in the the 4-6 positions. Unfortunately, the only other BU win came from Marwan Sallam who’s thrilling 5 game win was a highlight of the match. Ultimately, BU ended up with a frustrating 4-5 loss to Fordham.

After loosing a close first match, the Terriers were able to have strong rest of the weekend. BU faced Penn State later on Saturday and won in a 9-0 shutout. BU won all the matches by scores of either 3-0 or 3-1.

On Sunday, BU was first scheduled to take on Minnesota. Unfortunately, Minnesota did not have time to play what would have been a fun match and had to default the match due to travel scheduling problems. Later on Sunday, BU played their final match of the weekend against host school Swarthmore. The Terriers secured another 9-0 win, their second of the tournament. It was a great weekend for the BU Men’s Squash team who went 3-1 on the weekend to close out the Fall semester.

Boston University Men’s Squash Team Home Opener Win

BOSTON, MA. – After finishing one place below Boston College in the final rankings last season, the BU men were looking forward to our first match against BC this season. BU got off to a good start in the first round of matches when Joel Lavoie and Adam Whitaker both quickly won by scores of 3-0. Senior Paulo DaMoura then added a 3-1 win to put BU at an early advantage.

In the second round, Nick Carlson and Emanuel Vieira De Andrade won by scores of 3-1 and 3-2 respectively to clinch a BU victory in the match. Freshman Parker Tonissi played a tough opponent at the number 2 position and ended up loosing 3 close games. In the third round, freshman Marwan Sallam defeated the BC captain at the number 1 position 3-0. Allan Chen and Arthur Hobhouse added 3-1 victories to close out the match. The final score was a decisive 8-1 BU victory. The BU men are now 1-1 on the season.

An Exciting Week for BU Squash

The team is extremely excited for the upcoming week. We will be hosting BC this Tuesday at 8:20 at Boston University's Fitrec, where the men will battle it out on court. This has been difficult competition in years past but the team is prepared and ready to take on BC another year.

On Thursday, both BU men and women will be traveling across the city to Northeastern University to compete at 7:30. Another close competitor, Northeastern, will be great competition and a great match to watch.

The Women will also be traveling to Colgate University in Hamilton, NY to compete in a round robin both Saturday and Sunday. After an exciting weekend, the Women will take on BC for the first time on Tuesday at Boston University starting around 8pm!

These should be strong matches, so come out and support your fellow Terriers!
