WE ARE HIRING!

BU Synchro is currently in search of a new co-head coach to join our coaching staff! Applicants must be over 21 years of age and not currently in undergraduate school. The position would require collaboration with our other head coach Melissa Alvarado on routine choreography, practice schedules, and workouts. Attendance at practice for 6-10 hours a week or at least 2 out of 3 practices a week is required – practices run from  7pm to 10pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays and 11am to 3pm on Sundays, with attendance expected at Sunday practices at least twice a month. The season will start in early September and continue until early May. We typically have 3-4 meets a season that are within 2 hours from BU that you would be expected to attend. We also travel to the Collegiate National Championship, a multiple day event in March and will require team travel and lodging. All coaches must adhere to expectations described  in the 2023-2024 BU Synchro Swim Constitution.

If this is something you are interested in, please do not hesitate to contact us at bostonusynchroswim@gmail.com, or contact our Head Coach Melissa Alvarado at amelissa@bu.edu.

Back at the Pool

The summer's finished and we're gearing up for the 2019-2020 season!  We're looking forward to a big year ahead: highlights will include a regional and home meet and nationals in Mesa, Arizona in March.  If you're a terrier interested in joining, come check us out at Splash on September 7, 2019!

10th in the Nation – Competition Season Wrap Up

What an amazing season BU Synchronized Swimming has had!

We were featured in a BU Today article and video, describing synchro as a combination of art and athletics - the ultimate team sport!

Synch and Swim

Our regular season finished at regionals at the University of Pennsylvania. For the first time in program history, we walked away with the title of second in the East region! We used that momentum to work even harder on our routines for Nationals.

10 days after regionals we were wheels up headed to Arizona for Nationals. We touched down, took a moment to take in the sunshine and warmth, and headed straight to the pool for warm ups.

Thursday was the small routine competition. We had two trios, two duets, and one solo. All routines had their best swims and tango duet qualified for pre-swim and Julia's solo qualified for finals.

Friday morning all swimmers competed in the figures and elements competition. BU swept D figures, with swimmers in 2nd, 5th, 7th, and 9th.

We quickly transitioned from figures back to routines and started warming up our team routine! Team had an amazing swim Friday afternoon, coming in 14th.

We concluded the amazing week proudly as 10th team in the nation!

Thank you for all your love, support, and positive energy that helped us be successful. Time to start planning for next year!

1, 2, GO BU!!!!

First Routines Meet

We started the spring semester off to an excellent start with our first routines meet of the season!  This past weekend, 1/27 and 1/28, we traveled to Wheaton College and competed against both Wheaton and the University of the Incarnate Word in figures and routines.  We swam our best, even though we were coming off just 3 practices since returning from winter break.  Our swimmers swam in one team routine, two trios, and one duet.

If you missed the action last weekend, be sure to check us out this upcoming Saturday (2/3) for our only home meet of the season! Competition starts at 1:30pm sharp at the Boston University Fitness and Recreation Center pool.  Tickets are $5 for students and $10 for community.  Hope to see you there!

Finishing the Semester Strong

BU synchro moves into winter break energized from hard work all semester. Here's a recap of what we've been up to in the last few weeks.

On November 22, we proudly represented BU at the Wheaton figures meet and placed in D, C, and B figures!

We were also thrilled to be featured on BU Sports Nite! Check out the video they produced here:

Last night, coaches and swimmers celebrated an end of the semester dinner together. Coach Emily Polson surprised us all with hand-knit headbands to keep us warm after winter practices!

Over winter break, we'll be staying in shape by participating in a swimmers vs. coaches vs. alumnae workout challenge! (If you fall into one of these categories and would like to be involved in the challenge, message Boston University Synchronized Swimming on Facebook).

We've worked hard to learn our routines this semester and are excited to compete them next semester!  This season, we have two team routines, a trio, and two duets!

Moving into the holiday season, we are thankful for this team, our sport, and most of all, each other.  Happy Holidays from Boston University Synchronized Swimming.  <3

October Recap

Even though meet season hasn't started yet, October was a busy month for BU Synchro!  Here's a recap of some of our highlights:

1)- Volunteering! We took time out of a busy week to volunteer at the Waltham Youth Hockey Race on October 14th.  It was a great way to get in touch with the community, support youth sports programs, spread some positivity, and bond with our teammates!

2)- Fundraising!  October 29th was BU Synchro's first ever lap-athon!  Swimmers and coaches participated, swimming as many laps as they could in 30 minutes.  Our friends and family pledged donations per lap, and we raised over $2,500 for our nationals fund! We love our fans!

3)- Celebrating!  Can't write a post about October without mentioning Halloween!  We wrapped up the month with a festive practice on October 31st.  Swimmers and coaches came in their most creative waterproof costumes, and we had some spooky fun before getting to work.

Stay tuned for everything we'll be up to in November, most notably our first meet of the season at Wheaton on November 19th!

Season Off to a Great Start!

We're super excited for the season ahead!  Over the last few weeks, we met new swimmers at Splash and a tabling event we hosted during FitRec fun day.  Our two-week trial period is over, and we have 14 swimmers committed for the season ahead!! Now we're gearing up for our figures meet at Wheaton in November.  Stay tuned for more updates!
