Boston University Women In Chemistry (BUWIC) is a graduate student organization that strives to create a supportive and collaborative environment among Chemistry Department graduate and postdoctoral students, faculty and staff. BUWIC focuses its efforts and resources on professional advancement, career exploration, and personal development, with an emphasis on issues facing women in the sciences.

Since its establishment in 2005, BUWIC has provided members with educational workshops, social networking opportunities, and has hosted accomplished speakers from both ‘traditional’ and ‘non-traditional’ scientific career paths.

BUWIC helps graduate and post-doctoral students make challenging career decisions and continuously address questions every student harbors: “What happens after graduation?”  “What kind of career path will support and enable me to have a family?” “Is academia or industry right for me?”

BUWIC supports the university community through various collaborations, recruitment events and off-campus educational outreach. BUWIC continues to financially support graduate and postdoctoral researchers attending the National Meetings of the American Chemical Society and participates in the Chemistry Department’s Colloquia Series by recruiting BUWIC-funded speakers.
