For Tuesday November 9

Do the thesis statement/topic sentence activity

Do the grammar from chapter 5. I don’t have my book with me I but I know I assigned the listening at the beginning of the chapter and two other exercises. I am sorry that I can’t tell you the pages.

For Tuesday November 2

Go to the following links. Each one has a news article and a recorded interview. Read the articles and listen to the interviews.
For the interviews–
1. Who is being interviewed?
2. What is his/her position?
3. Find one piece of information that surprised you

–or if not exactly surprising, something you didn’t know before.
For the articles:
1. Print out the article and annotate it.
2.

Be prepared to tell the class the main point of each article.

For Thursday October 28

Be prepared to tell me who you are working with and what museum you plan to visit.

Revise the grammar on one of the three pieces of writing that I have commented on in the past three weeks. Don’t think of this as writing the second draft. Just try to fix the grammar and/or punctuation problems that I have pointed out.

Turn in the original with my comments and the revised sentences. No need to print out the whole essay again, but if you do–please make sure that the revisions are marked in bold/highlight/different color of ink.

For Tuesday October 26

Read the section from the reading called Human Nature. It is about the Declaration of Independence. Use the questions to guide your reading–you should be able to answer them. If you can’t answer some of them, you missed something. Be prepared to discuss the reading in class.

Over the weekend
rasameepen@gmail.com

Send me the short talk you are planning to give on the tour. Remember to try to connect your talk to information we have seen and/or discussed in class. Also, don’t be too detailed. Look for interesting facts–unusual aspects of the person or place that people might not know about or have thought about.

I will send you the feedback as soon as I receive your work, so that you can practice saying it aloud. PRACTICE IS VERY IMPORTANT.

For Tuesday October 22

Write a short essay on the character of John Adams. Feel free to use any of the adjectives we discussed in class. Make sure that you support your opinions with facts that you know about his life and times.
Those who would like more of a challenge can choose to write about Abigail Adams or Sam Adams. If you do this, begin by making a list of possible adjectives as we did in class for John Adams.
Please bring a hard copy to class AND email your essay to rasameepen@gmail.com–please put JOHN ADAMS ESSAY in the subject line.
