Homework for MONDAY, March 28:
TEST– be sure to know the transition signals of CAUSE & EFFECT [reason & result] AND their correct sentence patterns. The correct punctuation for the different sentence types is very important in English. LEARN what the patterns are for coordinators, conjunctive adverbs, and subordinators. Learn to use the transition signals that are more unfamiliar to you. I will not give credit for the word ‘because’ on the exam since you do not need any practice with this word. All the others will be on the exam.
Homework for Wednesday, March 24:
1. NorthStar: readings & exercises through page 83 (Vocabulary A and Grammar B 2.) For page 84, be sure to use since and as, not because (which you need no practice with.) You may also use for result the other result words from our chart. Note well: the reason words are all subordinators (i.e., they take sentence pattern 3), while the result words are all conjunctive adverbs (pattern 2) except for so, the coordinator (pattern 1.) You don’t need any practice with so either, so be sure to use the new conjunctive adverbs of result in your answers.
2. Finish your 4 + 4 (reason & result) sentences that we started in class. If you prefer, you may do that on computer.
3. Be working on your autobiography [due Friday]. The thinking process is very important; I suggest you sit down at a computer and start writing — the writing will facilitate the thinking process, and it will take you places that will be hard to plan for. Writing is thinking on paper. Enjoy doing this; I promise you that, in the end, it will be rewarding.
