6/27–WEDNESDAY FIELD TRIP TO OLD STURBRIDGE VILLAGE

We’ll be traveling back in time to experience American life almost 200 years ago.

Meet in CELOP lobby at 8:45 — from there we (and 3 other classes) will board the bus and leave. Please don’t be late; we don’t want to leave anyone behind.

Bring your lunch to be sure to have something you can eat comfortably. They do sell food there, but we are not sure if it will take into account everyone’s dietary needs.

Wear comfortable shoes and bring a camera. We will be outside most of the time we are there.

CHECK OUT THE PAGES “RESEARCH PAPER links” with NPR stories from both topics and ‘MORE RESEARCH PAPER links,’ with print story links. I will be adding to this with other types of links, so keep checking back.

Homework for Monday 6/25:

Write out the research topic you want to pursue for the two topics we identified stemming from the readings in New Directions (Work: specifically, issues raised in Someone Is Stealing Your Life; Gender Roles: specifically sex roles and gender identity, in other words, the nature vs. nurture debate.) This paper will be short, so your

In New Directions, read and do the exercises (on paper) for summarizing and paraphrasing. (pp. 196-197 –to be handed in.) Also, do the Vocabulary in Context (pg. 198)exercise along with the handout I gave you for matching definitions.

In New Directions, read the section on Writing with Sources in the green pages (pp. 124-132.) Pay particular attention to the APA style, which is what is used for the social sciences and what you will use in your research paper.

Finish ch. 8 exercises in the vocabulary book; review ch. 7 words for Monday’s quiz.
