About the Faculty

John Mackey is a member of the faculty in the Division of Social Sciences at Boston University’s College of General Studies.  He earned his Ph.D. in history at Boston College, with specialization in British, Irish, Chinese, and European Intellectual history.

He has taken CGS students on educational tours of China in 2010 and 2011, and he is excited and honored  to be the first faculty member to teach in the CGS Social Science Shanghai Study Abroad program.

A native of Laureldale, Pennsylvania, Professor Mackey graduated from Dickinson College with a B.A. in history before pursuing graduate studies at B.C.  He lives in the Boston area with his wife, Shannon.
