Hi everyone! I’m Lauren Haslett, and I’m a sophomore majoring in Advertising here at COM! Originally, I’m from Mount Laurel, NJ, a small town about 20 minutes from Philadelphia, PA. Although I miss New Jersey (most specifically Wawa), Boston has definitely become my home away from home! The shops on Newbury St., the museums, and the great Italian food in the North End have definitely helped me acclimate to the city!
I’ve been really interested in Advertising ever since I was a little kid. My mom tells me that when I was younger, I used to run around the house singing the catchy jingles from all my favorite TV commercials. Since then, not much has changed! That’s why I’m so happy here at COM! They have an amazing Advertising program, which so far has given me many unique opportunities! For example, this semester I’m interning for BU AdLab, the largest student-run ad agency in the country!
Outside of COM, I’m also very involved on campus! I’m on the junior executive board for Sigma Kappa sorority, and I truly enjoy being a part of Greek life! I also spend a good amount of time singing and arranging songs as a music director of my a cappella group, Chordially Yours! I’m also involved with “BU On Broadway” and recently performed in The Producers. You can also find me around campus, promoting the American Eagle clothing line while I serve as a Brand Representative for AE at BU!
When I’m not on campus, I intern for Teen Voices, a nonprofit organization that serves as a journalistic, mentoring and leadership program for teen girls in Boston. As the marketing intern, I help promote Teen Voices magazine, which is written by, for and about teenage girls! It is a truly rewarding experience that I never could have had if I hadn’t come to a city school like BU!
I’ve had the best time at COM this past year and a half, and I can’t wait to see what the upcoming years have in store for me! I’m so excited to meet all of you! Congratulations!
