Richie

Hey. My name is Richard Duque-Henao or just Richie Duque. I’ve lived my whole entire life in Lindenhurst, New York, a suburb on the south shore of Long Island.  I grew up in a household that spoke Spanish (my whole family, with me as the exception, was born in Colombia) and love dancing Salsa because of it whenever I can (even though it’s not very often).

I’ve always been interested in creative fields like music, teaching myself guitar at a young age. I’ve also been skateboarding for years and although I don’t do it as much as I used to now, I think my love for music and skateboarding is what got me so interested in film. I’m a sophomore in COM studying Film and Television. I came in with AP credits, so although I’m a junior, I’ve only been on campus for over a year.

My plan is to enjoy as many film related opportunities I can while at BU. I’ve recently been helping out on Senior Project film sets, to get a better feel for making a movie here at BU. I’ve been busy with two on-campus jobs but really want to start getting more involved with different film projects on campus. I’m also looking forward to studying abroad in Madrid, where I can learn documentary video production or Paris, where I can get set up with a Film or Television related internship. Then in my last semester at COM I’m definitely looking forward to studying in Los Angeles.

I was also lucky enough to get accepted into a four-year summer internship with Fox 5 Television Stations in Manhattan before coming to school. I get placed in different departments each summer and it’s something I’m really excited about.  Although my main goal is to become a director of either narrative or documentary feature films, I think getting a large amount of experience will help me secure a media-related job straight out of school. Then the plan from there is to make independent shorts on the side of a stable job until I can establish myself well enough to be that big director every kid dreams of being.
