Stephanie

Hey future freshman! I’m Steph and I’m from Miami, Florida. No, I don’t go to the beach everyday, and yes, I am freezing in this Boston winter. I came to COM as a Film/TV major, but as of right now I’m thinking about pursuing a major in Advertising, which may or may not have to do with my recent obsession with Mad Men. But my love for TV and Film is still very strong, so I’ll probably end up minoring in Film/TV, if not majoring. I would love to make a living creating commercials or movie trailers. Whatever I do, I want it to be creative. But for the most part, I’m still undecided.

This semester I’ve started working as a production assistant on the butv10 show Bay State. We are proudly the longest-running college soap opera. Yup, that’s right. BU has its own soap. As a production assistant, I get to try out all the different roles of running a TV show, like working the lights, the camera, the boom mike, building sets, and my favorite, editing. I also work at COM Student Services, so I have a lot of general COM knowledge. Let me tell you, as someone who has learned a lot about my school, I can say with confidence that COM really is the bomb. (Awwww.)

Outside of school, I love exploring Boston. It really is the greatest city for college students. Great shopping, great restaurants, beautiful parks and neighborhoods, and so many cool movie theaters. I’m kind of obsessed with movies just a bit. I can get a little nerdy about it. My cinematic heroes include Woody Allen, Quentin Tarantino, and Wes Anderson among many, many others. I can also get very nerdy about music. Luckily for me, there are so many awesome venues around for concerts—because let’s be honest, there’s nothing like seeing your favorite bands live. So far I’ve seen Jukebox the Ghost, Young the Giant, Noah and the Whale, The Kooks, and next up is Fun. I also enjoy long walks on the beach and attempting to bake despite my oven, which burns everything. (It’s the oven, I swear.)

You guys, get ready for one of the most awesome experiences of your lives. Boston University and COM are amazing. Can’t wait to meet all of you!
