We are pleased to announce that Dr. John D. Sullivan will be joining the Executive LL.M. in International Business Law team in 2013! Dr. Sullivan has spent the last twenty years working in mergers and acquisitions and boutique finance. He has extensive experience in private equity and asset valuation. Prior to joining Boston University, he worked for WR Grace in business development working on over a hundred transactions in the United States, China, Thailand, Taiwan, Brazil, Argentina, Columbia, Chile, Portugal, and the United Kingdom. He is still an active consultant in the field with clients that include Partners Healthcare, Mass General Hospital, Broad and Cassel, and Premier Healthcare. Here at Boston University, he teaches a wide variety of topics including mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, capital markets, investments, and new business ventures. Dr. Sullivan will be teaching U.S. and Trans-Border Mergers & Acquisitions for the Executive LL.M. Program. “It is a great privilege to be associated with BU’s LL.M. program. The law school and the degree have a history of excellence and achievement that is unique and very special. I am looking forward to bringing several different paradigms into the Transnational Mergers and Acquisitions course that will tie law, business, and strategy into the classroom using both academic, as well as practical exercises to prepare students for not only M&A, but also asset valuation.”

Dr. Sullivan holds an MBA from Northeastern University, an AM from Harvard University, and his Ph.D. in Law and Public Policy from Northeastern University.

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Sullivan to the Executive LL.M. community!

Meet Sheerin, the latest addition to our guest student series! Sheerin was kind enough to share some of her favorite experiences she had while taking U.S. and Trans-Border Mergers & Acquisitions and U.S. Corporate Law for the International Lawyer. Thanks Sheerin!

U.S. and Trans-Border Mergers & Acquisitions with Professor Steve Marks

“In Steve’s class we got to do a Capstone like project and that really helped me “get it”. It also gave me a chance to learn from my mistakes in the context of the learning environment, not on a job. That made me feel like I spent my time and money very wisely. Finally, I think Steve’s approach to facilitating, as opposed to directing, and understated yet friendly demeanor disarms and creates the type of environment necessary for learning in small groups.”

U.S. Corporate Law for the International Lawyer with Professor Kevin Outterson

“In Kevin’s class, we discussed cases extensively and because of Kevin’s ability to drill down on factual differences, identify common threads and provide practical strategies, I feel that I was tutored by a scholar and a lawyer but only had to pay for one. I am also extremely indebted to him for pointing out that I was not as precise as I could have been in a couple of sentences in my assignment. At this stage in my career, no one points those things out to me so it was a fantastic reminder and made me feel like I was being mentored. I also really appreciated Eva’s feedback because her comments on memo structure helped me understand why U.S. counsel writes memos the way they do and I will be able to explain that to others. It sounds so minor but memo structure can create misunderstandings.”
