After gorgeous weather for last weekend’s doubleheader at Harvard, Saturday’s doubleheader against Central Connecticut State has been cancelled. The Terriers will next take the field on Friday night at Cleveland Circle against Babson College.

The American Club Baseball Association has released its week 1 power rankings:
"Dropping from the top spot to second was Boston University as they had a weekend split with Harvard."
Top 6 rankings are as follows:

Before last weekend's games against Harvard University, the Boston University Club Baseball team topped the American Club Baseball Association preseason poll. The article stated that:
"Coming off an impressive fall campaign, the defending NECBA champions, starts the season as the favorites to win the title. Following the Terriers, the University of New Hampshire coming off of a great fall despite an early exit to the University of Vermont in the NECBA playoffs this fall. Rounding out the top three is Babson; Babson won the Northwest Division in the NECBA this fall and looks to build upon their solid fall."
The top ten of the poll was:
1. Boston University
2. University of New Hampshire
3. Babson College
4. University of Vermont
5. Three Rivers Community College
6. Central Connecticut State
The Terriers next take the field this Saturday, March 31st against Central Connecticut State. The doubleheader will feature the Terriers home opener at Cassidy field.

The Boston University Terriers took to the field this morning for the first time in 2012. At Harvard's home field, the weather was cool but the intensity was high as one of the largest crowds ever in support of BU baseball took over the Harvard field and gave the Terriers a home field advantage, only miles away from campus.
Andrew Kratzer took the mound in the first game and after struggling to find the zone in the first inning, Kratzer settled down and took over the game striking out 12 batters in only six innings. The Terriers didn't need to take the field in the seventh after nobody woke up potent Terrier offense. The offense only managed three hits off of the Crimson, and fell in the first game of the doubleheader.
In the second game. Bowie Matteson took the mound and was sensational. Matteson kept the Crimson in check and thanks to the help of some sensational plays behind him, earned the win. It wasn't until the bottom of the sixth inning that the Terriers finally crossed the plate. Playing some small ball, after Mike Robinson got hit by a pitch, he was moved to second by a sacrifice bunt by Matteson, and Eli Crozier knocked in the tying run with a double to left before getting thrown out at third attempting to stretch it to a triple.
The win was incredibly important for the Terriers as every game is a huge game in the short season. They will take the field again next Saturday and look to sweep their first doubleheader of the year.
After a long winter, it was recently announced that Andrew Kratzer and Mike Robinson were named Pitching and Hitting MVPs of the Southeast Division of the NECBA. Jay Godfrey and Jordan Kessel were also named to the team, Godfrey as an infielder and Kessel as a catcher.
Kratzer was dominant on the mound in the fall with an Earned Run average of less than 0.5 giving up only two earned runs in 30 innings with 51 strikeouts. He pitched the toughest games for the Terriers with wins over The University of Vermont, The University of New Hampshire, and the University of Maine. Kratzer will be looking to continue this success this spring in his final season of eligibility with the Terriers.
Fellow Senior Mike Robinson was named hitting MVP for the Southeast division. The senior center fielder led the team with a .480 batting average and also topped the stat chart in on base percentage with a whopping .581.
While Godfrey's statistics don't match up to to that of Robinson, they were also impressive. Godfrey hit for both power and average. He gave clutch hitting and had a great eye at the plate, finishing third on the team with 9 runs batted in and led the team with 8 walks.
Kessel had a strong statistical year in his first full season taking over full time catching duties. He led the team in several categories including hits, doubles, home runs, and also led the team with 15 runs batted in and a .764 slugging percentage.
Congrats to our two MVPs and our two All-Stars as they look to continue both their individual and team success in the spring season.
After a New England Club Baseball Championship in the fall of 2011, the Boston University Terriers are looking to add another piece of hardware to the trophy case. A 10-5 over Fairfield gave the team something to build on throughout the winter and the expectations are as high as they have ever been for the senior driven team.
The next task is continuing the win streak through the spring season. After not losing a game in over ten months, the Terriers will take the field again on Saturday March 24th, for a double-header against the Harvard Crimson. Pitching will be key for this spring season as Boston weather often means a hectic condensed schedule.

After losing in the 2010 NECBA Championship game to the University of Vermont, the Terriers were able to get revenge by eliminating the Catamounts from the playoffs with an 8-3 victory. Please see the link below for highlights:
With a thrilling defeat of the Northeast Division leading UNH Wildcats last Monday night, the Terriers clinched a first round bye in the NECBA playoffs. The Undefeated Terriers went into the matchup with UNH with a record of 10-0, and looked to their senior Ace Andrew Kratzer for a big win, “I knew everyone was looking to me for a big performance and I was up for the challenge” said the senior after throwing a complete game striking out 10. Kratzer overpowered the high octane UNH offense with 90+mph fastballs and a devastating curveball. “We know that whenever Kratzer is on the mound we have a great chance to win,” stated senior first baseman Eli Crozier, “It takes a lot of pressure off of the offense knowing that we only have to put up a few runs on the board to get a win,” added senior lead-off hitter Mike Robinson. The offense proved up for the challenge as they provided enough run support for the victory. Behind solid base running and small ball, the Terriers were able to take a 2-1 lead. It was not until top of the sixth inning when the offense finally opened the flood gates. Jay Godfrey led off the sixth with a single into left field, and after a past ball and a fielder’s choice, Godfrey ended up on third. A sacrifice fly from senior Ben Burkholder gave the Terriers the lead and they would not relinquish it. After a pitching change, sophomore catcher Jordan Kessel hit a fastball over the right-centerfield fence to give the Terriers a 4-2 lead. After giving up one run in an intense sixth inning, the Terriers were able to add on another in the top of the Seventh. With two men on with two outs and the winning run at the plate, Kratzer overpowered the final batter for UNH for his 10th strikeout giving the Terriers their most impressive victory to date.
