Service to blogs.bu.edu was restored at approximately 7:48AM on Wednesday August 12th. Upgrading took a little longer than we expected! We apologize for any inconvenience.

Wordpress and Buddypress have both been upgraded.

BuddyPress Updated

Admin Performance Problems Addressed

We are making some changes to the WordPress installation to improve the performance of the WordPress Administration system. Work will be ompleted by Wed, June 3.

BU Branding Removed from Student Blogs

In keeping with Boston University branding requirements, we have removed official BU branding elements (logos, etc.) from student blogs.

Disclaimer Added to Student Blogs

Similar to what was done on people.bu.edu, we have added a link to Boston University’s standard disclaimer on the blogs of student and student organizations. This link is required by the General Counsel.

Blogs – Work In Progress

Now that we have completed the installation of the latest release of WordPress, version 2.7.1, we have begun the following improvements and additions to the service:

Ensuring that a disclaimer is automatically added to all student and student organization blogs. This is required by the General Counsel’s office and is a prerequisite for officially announcing the service.
Updating the themes available to publishers.
Adding functionality that we’ve built and launched for WordPress websites on www.bu.edu and www.bumc.bu.edu.

We will send announcements as we complete this work.

Blogs Now Includes BuddyPress

BuddyPress, a suite of plugins that adds social-networking features to WordPress, has been integrated into BU Blogs. With BuddyPress, you can:

Invite other BU bloggers to be your friend.
Exchange messages with your friends.
View the posting activity of your friends.
Create public, private, or hidden groups.
View friend requests and pending invitations to join groups.

In BU Blogs, you will see a gray BuddyPress bar at the top of your blog pages. Once you’ve logged into Blogs, you can get access to the new BuddyPress tools in the My Account tab.
