Election Results, Sleep Out, and The Final Stretch

It’s crazy to think that we only have about four weeks left in the semester this year. Looking back at where Habitat stood on campus last September, we’ve clearly continued to make meaningful strides in reaching the $50,000 mark for the Dorchester Project and providing a wide range of build trips in order to compete with the enthusiasm of our members. We’ve been able to raise at least $15,000 since October and we hope that in the next few weeks we’ll be able to not only finalize the plans for a BU-funded affordable house in Dorchester, but begin setting new goals for the upcoming year.

These goals will be led by a Habitat E-Board in the Fall that welcomes four new officers with excitement. New to the E-Board officially in September, Katie Durand, Marshall Schurtz, Lynn Lim and Kanta Sangchuntr will assume the roles of fundraising chair, build trip coordinator, spring break coordinator and webmaster, respectively. We’re really happy to be welcoming four enthusiastic people to lead these roles and we look forward to finding new ways to contribute to our community and beyond.

The other five positions are filled with current officers with some movement. John Batoha and Lauren Harwood were elected as president and vice-president for their senior years, while Meg Downey has moved into her new role as secretary. John Dixon will continue as treasurer, and I will continue to publicize, as well as this wild blog we have here. With the combination of experience and enthusiasm on our Eboard, it’s safe to say our group will continue to be in good hands. It will be tough to see Zach, Nikki, and Rene graduate. Zach has led our group for two years now, shaping the progress of our group, but the three together account for so much of our success.

Sleep Out is less thanBU Habitat for Humanity 4.11.10 two weeks away! We’re really hoping that this is a huge campus wide event. If you haven’t read the emails, found the facebook event, or visited our website, all the information you could ever need can be found here : http://people.bu.edu/habitat/sleepout.html

Our next meeting will be Tuesday in STO B50 at 8pm, and we have two build trips left heading out with Greater Boston on April 17 and April 25, so make sure to come by and sign up.

That’s all for now, hope to see everyone soon at Sleep Out.

As one who is involved with the local HABITAT I am very happy to see so many young people getting involved and doing good for others. Bless you all!
