Personal Statement: Service

Service is an integral part of any University appointment. I currently serve on the Boston University School of Music Reappointment, Appointment, Promotion and Tenure Committee and the Music Education Graduate Studies Committee. I am currently an academic adviser to forty-three graduate students.

Past academic roles include the faculty representative on the Directorate plus department representative on operational planning, academic procedures, and higher education quality committees at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts.

My service to the music education profession at large includes being a board member for the International Society of Music Education, a past chair for the International Society of Music Education’s commission on Community Music Activity. As chair, I supervised a commission of interested parties from Brazil, USA, Canada, Singapore, and England. I have been on the board of directors for Sound Sense, the UK’s national community music development agency and Liverpool’s Youth Music Action Zone, part of Youth Music, the UK’s largest children’s music charity. I have organized and directed three conferences on the subjects of new technology, disability arts, and community music.
