Submissions

The 3rd issue of Hoochie Reader is now open for submissions!

Work allowed for submission includes academic papers, creative writing, and artwork. The Reader will be published in a print issue as well as online.

Submitting work to Hoochie provides value-added editing and feedback to authors. Most exciting, is to have your work, whether an academic essay, piece of creative writing, or artwork, featured in both a print and digital issue from a major university.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Submissions are due January 16th, 2019.

Please submit work and questions to hoochie@bu.edu

Submission Guidelines

All submitted work must pertain to women’s studies, feminism, or gender. All submitted work must have an abstract (for papers) or summary of work (for other submissions). Written work must be submitted as a word file, while visual submissions must be submitted either as a .pdf or .tif file. (see additional requirements below)

Additional submission guidelines for academic papers:

  • Papers should be no longer than 6,000 words, not including abstract, bibliography, addendices, etc. (if you would like to submit a longer piece, please contact the editor at hoochie@bu.edu for more details).
  • All works referenced must be cited completely and in a consistent format, whichever citation style is used.
  • Submissions must include an abstract of the paper.

We are open to talk about possible exceptions in terms of guidelines. Contact us via email.

Disclaimer: we will print in black and white, however, if the artist agrees, we can publish their art in color on our blog.
