Preseason Recap (10/12 – 10/13)

BU Roller Hockey trekked down to Feasterville, PA over Columbus Day weekend for their preseason tournament. The first matchup came against Slippery Rock, one of the division two favorites for this season. Despite a strong first few minutes which saw the Terriers come close on multiple scoring chances on an early power play opportunity, they couldn’t quite muster up enough effort the rest of the game to keep up with Slippery Rock and the game ended 10-0 with the Terriers on the losing side.

The Terriers knew they had to come out much stronger for game two against Delaware. Captain Ethan Shibutani showed his leadership, recording a hattrick and leading the team to a 5-4 victory. Matt Sullivan and Kevin Robitaille also scored goals in the game. Goalie Mark Flitsch had a strong performance, turning away 34 of 38 shots.

BU took the confidence from game two into their third and final game of the weekend against UMass – Amherst and came away with a 5-2 win. Rookie Nick Breed scored his first career goal and would add two more assists in the game. He found some chemistry with his linemate Andrew Hanlon, who also scored a goal and had an assist. Juniors JP Weldon, Jordan Reinhardt, and Bill Schoeninger scored the other goals for the Terriers.

The team ended the weekend with a 2-1 record and now look forward to the first regular season tournament taking place next weekend, October 19th – 20.th
