Student Entrepreneur In Residence Program
 
.406 Ventures (.406), a leading early-stage technology venture firm is looking for an out-going undergraduate or graduate student with a technical background and an entrepreneurial bent to help identify, understand and assess potential start-ups and technology advances at their university.  The Student Entrepreneur in Residence (sEIR) will work closely with investment professionals from .406 to understand our investment criteria and then actively network within the student body and engineering departments to identify disruptive technologies, teams and opportunities that could be high-growth companies targeting large market needs.    The goal is to indentify an opportunity that .406 Ventures funds upon which they will receive a substantial bonus.  This is a part-time job requiring roughly 5 hours per week and is a two year commitment.  The opportunity provides three advantages to the sEIRs:
·         As a class, the sEIRs will have a unique opportunity to network with, work with and learn from other hand-selected sEIRs from leading New England-based universities.
·         The sEIR program is a fantastic opportunity to get insight into the entrepreneurial and venture capital industries.
·         Strong networking resume building activity.
 
Role:
·         Spend 5 hours per week networking with the university labs and other nexuses of entrepreneurial activity to understand what ideas and technologies are being developed and if there are the beginnings of investment opportunities. 
·         Provide a brief bimonthly report back to .406 Ventures highlighting potential investment opportunities and interesting technologies.
·         Establish relationships with key labs, students and researchers/administrators.
·         Provide introductions to .406 investment team as requested.
·         Notify .406 Ventures of events, conferences, meetings … that we could benefit from attending.
 
Qualifications:
·         Background in technology and ability to quickly understand and assess new technologies.
·         Very strong demonstrated interest in entrepreneurial activities and becoming an entrepreneur.
·         Self-starter, ability to add value with minimal direction and oversight. 
·         Great communicator and networker, comfortable meeting new people.
·         Good understanding of research structure and key labs.
