Entrepreneur Design Contest Lecture Series: Writing a Technical Plan, Friday 02/26/10 4PM, PHO 203

Professor Michael Ruane will be giving a lecture on how to write a technical plan. Professor Ruane is the lead professor for the ECE Capstone Design courses and has supervised over 150 student design teams.  Michael Ruane received the B.E.E. from Villanova University in 1969, and the M.S.E.E. and Ph.D. (Systems Engineering) from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, in 1973 and 1980, respectively.

From 1969-1971 he was a Peace Corps volunteer in Sierra Leone.

Between 1973 -1977 he was a Research Staff Member in the MIT Energy Laboratory in the Electric Power group.   In 1980 he joined Boston University as an Assistant Professor.  He was a Visiting Scientist at the University of Arizona Optical Science Center in 1993-1994 and is currently Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Boston University. He has been Associate Chair of ECE for graduate studies and Associate Dean ad interim, and serves as Faculty Director of Outreach.   His interests include photonic materials and devices, and engineering design, education and outreach.

Dr. Ruane served as the Electricity Member on the Massachusetts Energy Siting Council in 1990-1993, as the Chair of IEEE Lasers and Electro-Optics Society, Boston Chapter, during 1996-98, and Education Coordinator for the NSF Engineering Research Center for Subsurface Sensing and Imaging Systems, CenSSIS, and for the Smart Lighting Center ERC.
