January 31st

Homework for Friday, February 3rd

1. In Next Generation Grammar 4, read pages 11-12 and do Exercise A on page 13

2. Thursday is Groundhog Day.  What?  Yes, Groundhog Day.  Find out something about this holiday to tell your classmates on Friday.

For February 7th and 10th

1. Go to the page on this blog with the title “National Public Radio” reports.  Follow the instructions there for your assignment for Tuesday and Friday.  Make sure to choose your story over the weekend so you can work with a partner on Tuesday to prepare your presentation.  You will have Tuesday-Thursday to prepare and practice your presentation for Friday.

2. For Tuesday, do Exercises 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 on the present perfect handout that I gave you on Friday.

♥ For February 14th ♥

1. Do the grammar handout (on bottle return laws) that I gave you on Friday.

2. People who have not done their presentations yet will do them on Tuesday, 2/1.

3. Be prepared for a quiz on the irregular verbs be – come.  SPELLING COUNTS.  If you spell the word incorrectly, then the answer is wrong.  I gave you the schedule AND a list of the verbs on Friday of Week 2.  I am attaching the schedule here in case you don’t know where it is.

For February 17th

1.Study for your irregular verb quiz.

2.Make sure that you have finished Chapter 13 of The Giver.

3.Review your verb tenses; we will be doing more with the past perfect on Friday (if we have time)

On Friday, I will show you how to use the VERY helpful reading and listening link below.  You can play with it yourself before then if you would like to.

For February 21st

Please refer to the assignment paper that I gave you on Friday.  YOUR RECORDINGS ARE DUE BY MIDNIGHT ON SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 19TH!!!!  If you can’t find the paper, look at the attachment below (The Giver) for instructions.  In class, everyone seemed to understand, but if you didn’t, email me.  Please try to put your whole recording into one file (if possible).  Remember: don’t make it longer than 5 minutes.

Over Spring Break

Over the break, I would like you to go to see a movie or watch one at home.  In class on March 14th, please be prepared to discuss the following:

  1. What movie did you see?
  2. Give a brief summary of the movie.
  3. What was your favorite part?
  4. Did you like the movie and why?

For Tuesday, March 21st

  1. Because of the snow day, we lost half of last week.  I WOULD like you to report on the movie that you saw during spring break.  Be prepared to answer the questions from the last homework assignment (Over Spring Break
  2. On Friday, I gave you a group of papers with the title Chapter 3 The Passive.  Remember to do Practices 1, 3, and 4.

  1. Irregular verbs pay – shine
  2. MEMORIZE the verb forms for the passive (present: am/is/are – verb+ing; past was/were – verb+ing, etc.)
  3. Bring Next Generation Grammar (the textbook you use with Doreen)

For Tuesday, March 28th

  1. Irregular verbs shoot – swear
  2. In Next Generation Grammar, read pp. 107-108 (this should all be familiar to you).  Do Exercises B and C.
  3. On my Passive handout, do Exercises 5, 6, 7, and 9.
  4. Think of two possible topics for your class presentation.

For Friday, March 31st

I’m sorry that I am just posting this now.  I have had an insane week of meetings.

Grammar: Please do both sides of the handout that I gave you on Tuesday.  One story is about the drug problem on the island of Doremi.  The other is about a circus.

Verbs: Irregular verbs shoot – swear

For Tuesday, April 4th

Listening: Finish watching the video about plastic bags on Bali.  Be prepared to answer the rest of the questions on Tuesday.

Grammar: Finish the handout that I gave you on Tuesday (the exercise about the circus).  Also do the first two exercises on the Participial Adjectives handout.

Speaking:  Outline your class presentation.  Be prepared to go over it with a classmate on Tuesday.  MAKE SURE IT IS ON PAPER, not just in your head.
