The Hot Dog Speaks: Why You Ought to Go to Red Hot Hockey

Dean Elmore is really pumped about Red Hot Hockey II, just announced by the Athletic Department.  He asked The Hot Dog, everyone’s favorite costumed fan and adamant supporter of all BU athletic teams, to write a blog piece as only the Hot Dog could to encourage you all to buy Red Hot Hockey student tickets on Monday, March 16. Tickets went on sale this week to selected groups, and they have sold like hotcakes, and student tickets will do the same on Monday.

Without further adieu, please welcome The Hog Dog to The Dean’s Blog:

I’ve only been to Madison Square Garden once in my life. Amazing, right? It was for Red Hot Hockey and it was magical – even with Brett Bennett in net!

I remember going through the ridiculous levels and turns, and following the numbers that instructed me to the appropriate section and once I finally got into the concourse area I was in awe. It’s really an architectural masterpiece – there isn’t a bad view anywhere, especially for hockey games and you can’t get tired looking around.

The amount of red in the building was overpowering at the first event to say the least. Everywhere you looked there were people dressed as candy canes, as both BU and Cornell’s colors are white and red.

Well, it’s officially official that BU and Cornell will play again in MSG during Thanksgiving Break in the 2009-2010 school year.

I think they should call it Hot Hot Hockey because this event will be twice as hot as the first one in all aspects.

Anyways, tickets are going on sale for BU students the day school starts again after break (March 16th). I’m praying to God there’s not going to be a line because I’m planning my future Thanksgiving break around this hockey game, even if Bonino and Wilson might not be in uniform.

In part one of RHH BU was better than Cornell at a lot – we had a video montage for our school to their pictorial slideshow, we had more cheers, and BU won 6-3. However, the one thing Cornell killed us on was the amount of supporters there. Cornell probably outnumbered BU 3-1. While I know geography plays a lot into this, I think we can do better. It was blatantly obvious how many more Cornell-ers were there once they scored their first goal and most of the arena jumped to their feet in celebration. I hope that’s different, and I hope we enter the Garden as reigning NCAA champions. I believe both can be achieved.

Unlike the last event – BU has actually got a BU student section in the Garden and a general BU alumni section. This will be good because two years ago the Cornell supporters trumped BU’s fans and the Terrier supporters were spread everywhere, which wasn’t good for cheering purposes.

The tickets go on sale to the general public on Thursday (I’m guessing they’ll go pretty quickly). Here’s the ticket prices:

Below is the latest ticket information:
$65 ($60.50 + $4.50 facility fee)
$35 ($30.50 + $4.50 facility fee)
$25 ($20.50 + $4.50 facility fee)
$15 student only – Only available in both boxes

I’m just gonna assume the more expensive tickets are the better seating tickets.

Here’s a sneak peak at what season ticket holders are getting sent to them:

As a valued season ticket holder for Terrier Men’s Ice Hockey, BU has already secured the best seats in Madison Square Garden for you in a special BU section. More information regarding purchasing tickets for this historic game will be sent to you shortly… so please be sure to save-the-date to see two of hockey’s most storied programs meet in one of the most iconic venues in the world!

You’d be foolish not to try to attend this event. It’s very special and I don’t need to tell you all the things to do in NYC right as the Christmas decorations go up. Get your tickets before Cornell supporters get all of them. I’m not trying to allow them to get a home game type atmosphere. GO BU!
