Culture yoself

One of the main complaints people have to say about lawyers is that they are some of the most boring people on the earth. See Legally Blonde.

So how should you go about fixing that stereotype? We aren’t that boring… right? Turns out yes, if all you have to talk about is law school gossip and old cases in textbooks. Good news for BU students is that we live in a city full of culture – so you don’t have to be a boring person!

There are so many things to do outside of the law school. Boston hosts some of the most award winnings sports teams: the Patriots, Red Sox, Celtics, and the Bruins. No matter what season it is, there is always a sports team to cheer for, not to mention your own BU Terriers.

If you are a foodie, Boston also hosts so many different flavors. Explore Cambridge for some hip up-and-coming places, take a visit to Allston to try some great Korean food, and the North End hosts some of the best Italian food outside of Italy. And if you are into beer, there is no shortage of breweries: Harpoon, Sam Adams, Lamplighter, Trillium, and Lord Hobo are just a few you should definitely try. During the summer there are even biergardens for you to enjoy the warm weather and throw back some drinks with friends.

If you are trying to get a traditional education in culture hit up some of the museums around town. The Boston Contemporary Art Museum, The Fine Arts Museum, The Freedom Trail, Boston Museum of Science, Museum of Bad Art, The Children’s Museum and so much more!

Finally just getting out and talking to people is one of the best ways to expose yourself to different ideas and experiences. Boston has many local festivals from the Charles Regatta to the St. Patrick’s Day Parade. And if the local sports team has won the national championship (which seems to happen at least once a year) then there will always be a huge parade!

So get out there and experience the world!
