It is the biggest and most impressive amphitheater of the Roman world and just like modern stadiums do it today, the Coliseum provided a place to see all kinds of spectacles including gladiatorial contests.

Another must see while in Rome is The Vatican and the St. Peters Basilica. The residence of the Popes, the Vatican is a state within a state; conditioned guaranteed by the Lateran Treaty of 1929. At this place many decisions have been taken which have shaped the destiny of Europe and the whole world. If you like history you will have a blast at The Piazza del Campo, as the Sienese call it. This plaza is the principal public space of Siena and the place where games and the market took place during medieval times. It is also one of Europe’s most prominent medieval squares and an ideal spot to spend a relaxed and tranquil afternoon. At this square make sure to visit the Torre del Mangia.

Located in the Piazza del Campo, the Torre del Mangia is a tower built during 1325-1348 visible throughout Siena. It features a clock that was added in 1360 and a beautiful architecture. .

The Duomo Square is another square worth visiting while in Sienna. Located opposite to the old hospital of Santa Maria della Scala, the Duomo Square or “Piazza del Duomo,” is a splendid example of the Italian’s Gothic architecture.

If you like archeology then a visit to the Museo Archeologicof in Siena is a must.

Formerly located at the Sapienza, the Archeological Museum features a number of pre-historic displays and the private collections of Chigi Zondari and Bocnci Casuccini. Nowadays, you can find the museum at the Spedale di Santa Maria della Scala.

You can never say too much about Italy .It is a fabulous place. I’ve just found something interesting. You can actually stays in convents and monasteries all over Italy. Have a look at http://www.monasterystays.com. The monasteries look good, are well located (as you’d expect), reasonably priced and safe! I’m planning to stay in several ojn my next trip as it will be a different experience. check it out
