Using harpoon vector symbol in LaTeX

My favorite vector symbol is a harpoon, but the harpoon package defaults to text mode, which will fail when math characters like \ell are used in the math mode.

To fix this, in your document header put:

\usepackage{harpoon}
\newcommand*{\vect}[1]{\overrightharp{\ensuremath{#1}}}

then

$\vect{d\ell}$

will work.

IEEEtran.cls prerequisities

You can invoke the IEEEtran.cls by starting your .tex file with:
\documentclass[10pt]{IEEEtran}

You may get an error stating that IEEEtran.cls not found.

In that case, do:

sudo apt-get install texlive-publishers texlive-fonts-recommended biblatex

so that you don’t get a
Font OT1/ptm/m/n/10=ptmr7t at 10.0pt not loadable
error.
