Spring Semester

Our plans for spring semester 2013 include lectures from oyster farmers, aquarium workers, and the Center for Career Development, the Charles River clean-up, raffles for behind-the-scenes aquarium tours, and, of course, the lobster ball! We are looking forward to a great semester!

Some announcements

Our past events, the Ocean Frontiers film screening, and the beach clean-up were both successes!

Our next meeting features Wally Fulweiler, and will take place on November 27th, the Tuesday after Thanksgiving break. Normal time, place, and pizza.

We are working on the cafepress website, where soon you’ll be able to order past t-shirt designs on new shirts, mugs, bags, etc.

We are aiming to order this year’s t-shirts after winter break, so make sure you finish your designs during break!

Ocean Frontiers Film Screening

We have an awesome event planned for Tuesday, October 23rd from 6-9pm in the George Sherman Union Conference Auditorium. We will be screening Ocean Frontiers, a film about ocean stewardship and new strategies to lessen impacts on the ocean. It will discuss the issue of shipping routes and whales, introduce us to Iowan farmers who are improving the state of the Gulf of Mexico, and explain how a small fishing community conserves its resources. Following will be a discussion with a panel of experts:

  • Prof. Les Kaufman, BU Marine Program and Dept of Biology; Senior Fellow for Conservation International
  • Hannah Gossner from the BU Marine Science Association

Refreshments will be served at 6pm and the film will begin at 6:30pm. This event is free and open to the public.

Second Meeting!

Hear graduate student John Majoris talk about grad schools- which is right for you, how to find a mentor, and how to apply. Then there will be pizza and a TED talk at 7:30. The meeting starts at 7pm Thursday Oct 4th in BRB 133 (our normal room). See you there!

First Meeting Revised!

Our first meeting has changed locations! We are hoping many of you will come, so we will be meeting in LSE B01 on Thursday, September 13th, at 7pm. We will have a introduction to the club with our e-board and a pizza reception afterwards.

First Meeting!

Our first meeting of the 2012-2013 year will be next Thursday, Sept. 13th, at 7pm, in LSE (Life Science and Engineering), room 103. Come to hear about what our club does, see our new website and tumblr, give suggestions about events and outreach that you would like to see, and hear about our plans for the year!

Welcome to the new MSA website!

In order to reach the maximum amount of BU students interested in anything related to marine science, the ocean, the environment, fish, boats, SCUBA, and sea monsters, we have created a new website! Here you will find posts about MSA news, learn about the people involved in our club, and organize your schedule to include MSA meetings and events. This website is part of our effort to be easily accessible to the BU community, as are our Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr pages!

We hope everyone is having a great summer, and we cannot wait to see everyone in the fall!
