The Student Association and the Associate Dean for Community Life and Lifelong Learning have approved funding for students attending professional conferences during the 2012-2013 school year.
Students are eligible to receive $250 to attend academic conferences outside the Boston metropolitan area. Students must submit to the Student Association (either in person or via email to sthsa@bu.edu) documents demonstrating registration and/or travel arrangements to the conference in order to be eligible and complete a form (click here) to be submitted to the Student Association and then to the Office of the Dean of Community Life and Lifelong Learning. Conferences other than the national meetings of the American Academy of Religion and the Society of Biblical Literature will require the approval of the Executive Board of the Student Association.
Students presenting papers at professional conferences outside the Boston metropolitan area are eligible to receive $250. Students must demonstrate acceptance of a paper to a conference to be eligible for this funding.
Students may receive up to $500 from the Student Association and the Dean’s Office for conference attendance and paper presentations combined per academic year.
After submitting an email request to sthsa@bu.edu and tgreen79@bu.edu for pre-approval for funding related to conferences, the treasurer will put forth the request at the next Administration & Stewardship meeting (the first Wednesday of each month) at which time the body will vote to approve or deny the request, so long as funding remains available. It is helpful if students wanting to travel attend the weekly meetings, especially when their travel will be discussed so they can then submit their paperwork prior to traveling.
Students receiving funding are required to prepare a one-page reflection on their conference experience within two weeks of the end of the conference they attend. Reflection papers should be emailed to sthsa@bu.edu and will be posted on our blog.
