Research Interests

Marine Spatial Models: Funded by the Bureau of Ocean Management (BOEM), this research focusses on building a marine spatial decision system. The website listing research, models and publications are here.

Disease Modeling and Mapping: Analyzing spatial patterns of Gulf War Syndrome, addiction in the US, malaria in East Shoa in Ethiopia, and maternal mortality in Zambia.

Supply Chains – IoT and Blockchain

Neural Networks: In my work, I have used a variety of neural networks including backpropagation, ART (Adaptive Resonance Theory) models, and SOM (Self-organizing Maps) for landcover classification, change detection, estimation and other problems.

Social Mining and Text Data Visualization: Understanding the State of the World through Cool Visualizations

Multiscale Models: Work on developing statistical multi-scale models in remote sensing with Eric Kolaczyk, professor in Statistics and doctoral student Junchang Ju.

Spatial Accuracy Issues: Spatial accuracy is an important in Spatial Sciences. My work has dealt in understanding the many aspects of thematic accuracy and ways to quantify it.
