I have lived in the great state of Michigan for twenty-two years. It has so much to offer, culturally, historically, and beauty wise that is impossible to condense the attractions into a single blog post. However, I will try my best.
Let us first start on Michigan’s gorgeous west coast. Bordering one of Michigan’s five Great Lakes, Lake Michigan is perhaps the most beautiful and conducive for visiting. With sandy shores and dunes lining the coast from Indiana to Canada the summer-time in Michigan offers great places to get sun, stroll the beach, and explore the west coast of Michigan. The west coast of Michigan has many fantastic lodging alternatives for the whole family, or for a couple looking for a private getaway. Make sure to explore all of the Michigan vacation rentals to find whatever suits your needs.
Staying in the lower peninsula of Michigan and traveling inland still offers many great tourist destinations and cultural hotspots. Moving to the east side of Michigan, it is imperative to make a stop into Ann Arbor. Ann Arbor is home to the state’s largest Art Fair along with the amazing University of Michigan. Travel down State Street for fine dining and fantastic shopping alternatives.
A great way to travel through Michigan is by driving. So rent a car and travel up the huge mitten-shaped state. Make stops in Lansing, to visit the historic capital of Michigan, and continue on to the beautiful cities of Traverse City and Petoskey to catch a glimpse of beautiful bays and harbors of Northern Michigan.
One cannot forget Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. The Upper Peninsula is oft forgotten by us Lower Peninsulan’s but its proximity to Canada and unique culture, make it a must see destination if you are traveling to Michigan. Make a stop in historic Mackinac City or Mackinac Island and try some of the fudge, or take a lovely carriage ride.
