Greetings, and happy September! I hope that everyone enjoyed a restorative summer full of productive adventures.
It’s my pleasure to announce the first meeting of our graduate student organization on Thursday, September 27th, at 5.30p in CAS 200. I have placed the agenda for the meeting under the “Governance” button located in the above toolbar and encourage you to review its contents, as we have some fairly important business ahead of us, including the ratification of our constitution (also located in the “Governance” section)
As many of you know, our graduate organization was founded in the spring of this year to meet a growing desire for greater community networking and support, to encourage the collegiality and creative thinking that are the hallmarks of our program, and to represent our interests to the university in an official manner. Together we have established the framework for a lively, multifaceted organization that holds the potential to promote our interests not only within our university but within the wider networks of American Studies programs here and abroad. We have already secured the funding for and intend to host our first graduate student conference in the spring of 2013; with that platform, our newly minted website, and a host of other projects in the works, we stand to make this academic year one of the most exciting and rewarding for our talented, hardworking grad community.
The meeting will run for approximately one hour, and then we will host our first AMNESP GSA welcome back shindig, in the same location–keep your eyes peeled for an announcement from our orientation chairs, Adrea, Channon, and Sam.
So please mark your calendars and bring your party shoes. I’m looking forward to reconnecting with all of you!
Best wishes,
Casey
President, AMNESP-GSA
