Photo: BU Today<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>Geena Davis, CFA&#8217;79, Hon.\u00a0 &#8217;99<\/strong>, spoke last night at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/dbin\/archives\/index.php?pid=051speakerseries\">Friend&#8217;s of the Libraries Speaker&#8217;s Series<\/a> sponsored by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/dbin\/archives\/index.php?pid=111\">Howard Gotlieb Archival Research Center<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Aside from her Oscar-winning success,\u00a0 Davis is a concerned mother of a young daughter (she also has twin boys). She began <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thegeenadavisinstitute.org\/\">The Geena Davis Institute On Gender in Media<\/a> in 2004 to study and address the depiction of female characters in children&#8217;s media as well as the imbalance of male to female characters in many of the shows.\u00a0 A recent University of Southern California <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seejane.org\/downloads\/PR_GenderDisparityFamilyFilms.pdf\">study<\/a> sponsored by the Institute, found evidence of stereotypical portrayals of women and fewer speaking parts in relation to men in the 122 films examined.\u00a0 &#8211;Information from <em>BU Today <\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Geena Davis, CFA&#8217;79, Hon.\u00a0 &#8217;99, spoke last night at the Friend&#8217;s of the Libraries Speaker&#8217;s Series sponsored by the Howard Gotlieb Archival Research Center.
