Facilitated by fourth year\u00a0BUATP student leaders,\u00a0e<\/span>ach class has a guest speaker as well as various activities and exercises to practice the specific skill\u00a0being taught during the session.<span>We hope to not only equip students with\u00a0an<\/span><\/span>\u00a0&#8220;advocacy toolkit&#8221; of concrete strategies and skills for future activism, but also to impart on them an ability to creatively approach any advocacy issues they might encounter throughout their medical training and careers. Recent\u00a0topics include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Power mapping<\/li>\n<li>Direct action<\/li>\n<li>Elevator speeches and framing<\/li>\n<li>Writing opinion-editorials<\/li>\n<li>Legislative advocacy<\/li>\n<li>Lobby visits<\/li>\n<li>Media advocacy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Eligibility: Students are encouraged, but not required, to have taken SPA-1 prior to SPA-2.\u00a0<span>A short application for enrollment is released and due shortly preceding the class.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Schedule: A total of approximately\u00a0eight two-hour sessions over three months.
