Summer Time!

Hey Everybody,

Hope everyone’s summer is going well and you’re staying in shape for the coming school year! Summer is a time to relax and do things but that’s no excuse to throw away all of the work you did in the gym. Go out, find a gym to train at whether or not they have MMA or BJJ and keep active. Even shadowboxing in your backyard will keep your muscle memory working if you can’t find a gym. Whatever you have to do to stay in shape and not revisit that freshman 15. Can’t wait to see you guys at our first practice on Tuesday September 3rd!

Cheers,

BUBJJ family

Some Administration Things

Hey guys,

Another great practice as usual. Saw some good live rolling from everyone tonight. Y'all are really absorbing what we're teaching you. So just one order of business. As Mitch mentioned at the end of practice, we are going to ask that dues be turned in by next Friday September 14. Dues will be $140 a semester or $250 for the whole year if you pay upfront. If this is an issue like you can't pay it all at once or you have financial issues that prevent you from being able to pay, please talk to Mitch or Esteban at practice or email me at bubjj@bu.edu and we'll discuss how we can work something out. We don't want to lose members due to financial issues but we also have to pay our coaches so dues are necessary to keeping this club up and running.

On a lighter note, our coaches will be making their first appearance at Sunday's practice. John "Doomsday" Howard will be coming in to teach us some MMA. For those of you that don't know him, he is a professional MMA fighter and has fought in the UFC as well as many other leagues. You can check out the Coaches page for a little bit more info. Just a fun note though, his nickname "Doomsday" comes from the superman villain of the same name who is the only person to have ever knocked out superman.

Look forward to seeing everyone at practice tomorrow!

Cheers,

Great Practice!

It was good seeing everyone yesterday at practice. Y'all picked up the techniques really well and were a fun group to coach. Just to let you guys know are next practice will be Thursday 8:00P.M.-11:00P.M. in L137. Same time and place as yesterday's practice. We'll have the same format, half grappling and half striking, as last time and we'll progress just a little bit more and show you guys some different moves to add to your game. If you have any questions or concerns feel free to email us at bubjj@bu.edu and we'll be happy to answer whatever may come to mind. Look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow!

Another New Year!

Hey everyone hope you all had a great summer and for those of you coming back to BU hope it was relaxing and rejuvenating. For all of you freshman out there welcome to BU and We're glad to have you all in the terrier family.

So tomorrow is our first practice of the year! If you got our email then most of this info you'll have already seen but here it is for those of you whom didn't get the email. It will be held at 8:00P.M. in room L137 on the lower floor of FitRec next to the rock wall. Just to let you guys know a little bit about how these first few practices will work while we try to introduce you all to what we do we're going to format the practice a little differently than the rest of the year. We're going to start by giving ya'll a little info session and introduction and then we'll split you guys up into two groups. One will do grappling while the other does striking and then about halfway through we'll switch.

Just some recommendations for practice:

1. Wear comfortable athletic clothes. Preferably some type of rash guard like under armor but a non-baggy t-shirt is fine, athletic shorts, compression shorts are ideal but if not wear normal underwear but we recommend against boxers as they are prone to ripping, and girls will want to tie their hair up (guys too if you have long hair of course).

2.Bring a water bottle as you will be sweating but we'll keep the intensity low for the first practice while we show you the basics.

3.Please follow good hygiene for class. That means shower (no one wants to roll around with a guy that smells like wet dog) and trim your nails so you don't scratch each other.

Other than that come prepared to have fun. We enjoyed meeting ya'll and it looks like we got a lot of great guys and girls out there interested. Look forward to seeing ya'll at practice.

Cheers,

Boston University Jujitsu
