On Sunday, October 30th, the Squash team had the pleasure of volunteering at the Travis Roy Foundation 5k in Newton, MA. Laura Ferreira-Cesar (’18) has been an active volunteer in this organization since her freshman year at Boston University. Travis has many connections to our team having attended Tabor Academy, the alma matter of both Laura and Captain Joel Lavoie and is a Boston University Terrier. His foundation is “dedicated to enhancing the life of individuals with spinal cord injuries and their families by providing adaptive equipment and to finding a cure through increased funding of research, resulting in self-reliance and the ability to be as independent as possible.”
During the 5k, the team participated in helping in the kids race, where several of our players ran along the kids, handed out water, tracking times, registering runners and placed around the corse to direct runners. All participants were extremely spirited dressed in their halloween entire. The team had a great time volunteering and meeting Travis, whose story has truly inspired each of us. The team enjoyed being a part of such a great cause and hope to work with this foundation in the future!
